Federal Tax Credits for Consumer Energy Efficiency

If you purchase an energy-efficient product or renewable energy system for your home, you may be eligible for a federal tax credit.

Tax credits for Solar Energy Systems are available at 30% through December 31, 2019. The credit decreases to 26% for tax year 2020; drops to 22% for tax year 2021 then expires December 31, 2021) Details: Existing homes and new construction qualify. Both principal residences and second homes qualify.

Energy Efficient Solar Attic Fans Qualify for 30% Federal Tax Credit

The Natural Light Solar Attic Fans meet the new standards to be eligible for up to $1,500 Federal Tax Credit.

Both the Purchase Price AND Installation Cost of a solar attic fan qualify for a 30% federal tax credit. IRS Form 5695 is needed to apply for this credit. Enter the installed cost on line 1 of the form.

In order to qualify for tax credits as defined in the Emergency Stabilization Act, the solar attic fan must have been placed in service on your home on June 1, 2009 through December 31, 2021. Additionally, the solar attic fan must have been properly installed meeting all applicable building, electrical and fire codes.

To assist with claiming a tax credit, we provide a link to the Statement of Certification for homeowners provided by Natural Light Energy Systems. Please download and complete the form and keep it with your tax records. The Statement of Certification is not required to be filed with the tax forms, but income tax regulations require taxpayers to have appropriate documentation to qualify for a tax credit.
